The Mornin Brew is a small coffee shop run by students in the Transition Education/Launch Programs.  It is located in Woburn Memorial High School.  The shop in entering it's  6th year of operation.  The success of the coffee shop is due to generous donations and support from organizations from Boston Bean and Samantha's Harvest.

   The Mornin' Brew

Boston Bean is a coffee company located on Draper Street in Woburn.  They helped us start up our coffee shop by donating a coffee maker and coffee dispensers.  Peter Johnson has continued to to generously support our program by providing coffee and all of the  supplies needed to keep our coffee shop running.  This year Peter had new custom Mornin' Brew shirts made for the all students and staff to wear as uniforms in the coffee shop.  Susan Thifault (teacher at WMHS) helped design the logo with Alyssa Rockentanz a WMHS student.  The Mornin' Brew is a project made successful by the kindness of community members.  Students have been able to learn social, math, ADL, vocational, time management and personal responsibility through this experience.  They have been connected to and developed friendships with staff and students within the school that they may have not have met otherwise.  Students take great pride in their coffee shop!

Students anxiously wait to see Peter Johnson present the "new look".       Students admire the new shirts donated by Peter Johnson & Boston Bean.

Kim O., Kim N., and Stacey are delighted with the new shirts!

We would like to thank Peter Johnson and Boston Bean for the tremendous amount of support they have provided to our program.  Our students have benefited in so many ways from your generosity.  We truly appreciate all you do for us!!

Samantha's Harvest is a non-profit organization working to improve the lives of individuals with Down Syndrome.  This organization has provided the Launch Program with a tremendous amount of support .  Their contributions have enabled us to purchase our first work uniforms for employees of the Mornin Brew.  Samantha's Harvest donated coffee mugs with the Mornin Brew logo to be sold in the coffee shop with all proceeds to benefit the Launch Program.  They also donated a laptop computer which has benefited the program in many ways.  Thank you for your ongoing support!

In the Mornin Brew students learn to:

  • Read a work schedule
  • Arrive prepared for work on their assigned day
  • Follow through with assigned responsibilities with independence
  • Interact with customers
  • Get to know teachers in the school who they may otherwise may have not gotten to know
  • Learn cooking and food service skills
  • Learn communication and social skills
  • Learn money and cash register skills
  • Learn to generalize skills taught in the classroom

Kevin waits on a customer in the Mornin' Brew.                                          Stacey wraps and labels muffins for the Mornin' Brew.

Students receive a stipend for their work which begins to teach them the value of hard work.  Students now have the opportunity to budget and bank with READING COOPERATIVE BANK on payday.  Most important of all students take pride in themselves and their work!
